Bio

Pearl Leung’s namesake gender-neutral fashion label, Pearl Leung Style, is rooted in sustainability and cultural storytelling.

Combining the vibrant energy of Hong Kong with the rich history and customs of the local communities. Leung draws inspiration from the tradition of patchwork quilting, where families gather fabric scraps from their neighbours and relatives to create quilts that are imbued with the blessings of many households.

Her garments are reconstructed using recycled clothing and other interesting scraps, and her approach reflects a belief in thoughtful craftsmanship and circular design, aiming to create durable, high-quality garments that encourage consumers to value quality over quantity.

Pearl was a Semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2024 and was selected to create an upcycled lion dance showpiece made from unwearable clothing waste as part of the ‘Redressing the Lion Dance’ project merging sustainability, fashion and Hong Kong’s cultural heritage. She holds a Higher Diploma in Fashion Design and Product Development from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Redress Design Award Collection

earl’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘The Story Behind’, draws inspiration from the environment of the designer’s upbringing. The collection incorporates local vintage items and elements of old Hong Kong culture, such as ornate iron gates and chequered bread packaging, to encourage longevity through emotional connection. Vintage flour bags are upcycled with zero waste and hand-pleated into a long wrap skirt in one look, while in another, a jacket lined with green mesh is reminiscent of rain, and a tube slit dress evokes the colours of the iconic fish dish, golden threadfin bream or the red-shirt fish (紅衫魚).
