Redress Design Award Collection

Thu Ngan’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘The Historian’, is inspired by humanity’s desire to preserve memories and cultural heritage through meaningful objects. Thu Ngan’s collection repurposes premium deadstock fabrics sourced directly from designers via European deadstock suppliers and her employment relationship. To minimise production waste, Thu Ngan uses zero-waste pattern-cutting on harem trousers, creates laser-cut feather embellishments from cut-and-sew waste within the collection, and upcycles a used military parachute into trousers. With a patchwork technique, she reconstructs leather while preserving its full-grain quality and using its off-cuts. A zero-waste reversible skirt offers versatility with two distinct looks and an adjustable design that accommodates multiple sizes.
